THE GOONIE

Artist Statement & Biography

Born in France in 1981, The Goonie grew up immersed in the vibrant golden era of hip-hop culture, the graphic power of comic books, and a definitive fascination for cinema—discovering the groundbreaking movies of director like Quentin Tarantino. In 1996, he entered the graffiti scene in Toulouse with his crew, BAK. From his very first steps in the streets, the raw brick wall became his canvas of choice—an urban, living medium carrying its own history.

Now based in the Tel Aviv area, The Goonie has bridged the gap between subculture and fine art. His signature technique consists of harvesting raw bricks, engineering them into structural compositions, and painting iconic comic book heroes and cartoon figures directly onto their textured surfaces.

The Analog Nostalgia & High-Tech Dialogue

Driven by a profound love for the vintage analog objects he grew up with, his work captures the soul of retro audio tapes and historic television sets. This passion has recently evolved into high-end plexiglas showcases integrating a visible NFC chip on the right side of the piece. By placing a smartphone near the plexiglas, the viewer triggers an interactive experience—streaming iconic hip-hop tracks to a wireless speaker or archival videos to a monitor via Bluetooth. This dialogue between physical raw matter and digital high-tech creates an immersive capsule where the weight of the past meets modernity.

From spontaneous international street installations to meticulously crafted fine art gallery pieces, The Goonie repurposes the fundamental elements of our memories to make the material resonate.
